Frequently Asked Questions about BIO SPOT®
Spot On® Flea and Tick Control for Dogs

How does Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs differ from other flea and tick control products?
Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs contains both an insecticide to kill and repel adult fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes up to 30 days, AND a long lasting insect growth regulator (IGR) to prevent flea eggs from developing into biting adults. It works against BOTH adult fleas and flea eggs, as well as ticks and mosquitoes, all in an easy to apply, spot-on dispenser.

How does an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) work?
An IGR mimics an insect hormone involved in egg hatching and insect maturation to the adult stage. When exposed to an IGR, insect eggs fail to hatch and die before becoming biting adults. An IGR does not kill adult insects.

How does Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs break the flea life cycle?
Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs kills flea eggs and adults. Since the eggs are killed, fleas will not develop into biting adults and the life cycle is broken.

How effective is Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs? How long will it last?
Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs kills flea eggs and kills and repels adult fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes on contact and keeps working up to 4 weeks.

How is Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs applied?
Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs comes in convenient 3 and 6-month packaging, with weight ranges from 15 lbs. and under to 60 lbs. and over. Depending on your dog’s size, Bio Spot® is applied to different areas on the body, such as between the shoulder blades and at the base of the tail. Always read the label before applying since application sites vary depending on the dog’s weight.

How is Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs distributed over the dog's body?
The ingredients in Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs are spread through the oils in the dog’s coat, moving from hair to hair as the dog moves.

Is Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs a potential hazard to other pets?
DO NOT USE BIO SPOT® SPOT ON® FLEA & TICK CONTROL FOR DOGS ON CATS OR FERRETS or animals other than dogs. Cats and ferrets are sensitive to the permethrin found in Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs. Cats in close contact with recently treated dogs may be at risk of toxic exposure. Wait 24 hours after application before allowing Bio Spot®-treated dogs to come in contact with cats. Nearly all dogs tolerate Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs well. But, as with any flea and tick control product, rare individual dogs may be sensitive to one or more of the ingredients. If your dog shows signs of irritation or sensitivity to the product (redness or itchiness at the application site), discontinue use. Bathe the dog with a mild, non-insecticidal shampoo and seek veterinary advice.

What about dogs with Heartworm?
Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs will not kill heartworms already infecting your dog. Dogs become infected with Heartworm when infected mosquitoes bite and suck blood. Using Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs every four weeks throughout mosquito season helps prevent mosquitoes from biting your dog.

Can Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs be used at the same time as other flea control products?
As with all on-animal insecticides, it is advisable to consult a veterinarian before using this product with any other flea and tick control product or drug. But, it shouldn’t be necessary to use another product on your dog at the same time you use Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs. Using another on-animal product will not provide better protection. Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs provides up to 30 days of continuous control of adult fleas and ticks. It helps prevent future infestation by killing flea eggs. For best results, use Bio Spot® indoor premise or yard products to reduce flea populations in your pet’s environment.

How can a few drops of Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs protect my dog from fleas?
Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs’ concentrated formula contains 48% active ingredients in a handy "spot on" application. Dips and sprays are nearly all water or other carriers. Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs' ingredients move through the oils in your dog's coat and skin to kill and repel fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.

Will Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs still work after my dog gets shampooed or wet in the rain?
Yes. If your dog sometimes gets wet in the rain or you bathe him with a mild shampoo, Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs should still work. However, if your dog gets wet often or is bathed with a detergent soap, some of Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs' active ingredients may be washed away, thus reducing efficacy. Bio Guard® Shampoo from Farnam has been developed to wash up your pet without washing out his flea control protection.

Should my dog be clean before I apply Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs?
Bathing your dog is not required before applying Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Dogs. However, because bathing may remove some of the active ingredients, bathing your dog before treatment is preferable to bathing your dog soon after treatment.

Our label also recommends consulting a veterinarian before use if a dog is aged, debilitated, medicated, nursing, or pregnant.

Do Bio Spot® products have an expiration date?
